Ekphrasis Challenge-Isabelle Rinker

Razumovskaya, Anna. Firebird.
Ordinary Woman

She was not an ordinary woman.
She was marvelous.
She was free.
She was a firebird.

There were those who doubted her,
Those who scoffed at her efforts.
But she knew her worth.
She was a firebird.

She was not an ordinary woman.
She was strong.
She was courageous.
She was a firebird.

No one could touch her,
For she was a firebird.

  1. I like the repetition of "She was a firebird" in this poem. This repetition makes the title of the painting (Ordinary Woman) seem ironic, because of the upbeat, fiery nature and connotation of "firebird."

  2. Very obvious and blatant, but the repetition of "She was..." gave the poem a staccato rhythm just as in "The Yellow Wallpaper". The repetition also gives the poem structure

  3. I liked the reuse of the term Firebird because I think it is constantly tying the piece together. However, the first stanza has so many repeats that it doesn't flow with the rest of the poem.

  5. Very relatable. The repetition in the poem definitely gave a lot of the structure to the poem and helped to read it in a certain way. Interesting interpretation to take the meaning of the poem exactly the opposite as it is named.
